This needs explanation both in upgrade notes and in the main
documentation for mobile push notifications.

With recent work on E2EE, instructions on sending push notifications
directly (without using the service) have become outdated. As questions
about how to do this generally come from users whose goal is
to work around the business model that supports Zulip's development,
we are dropping these instructions rather than updating them. E2EE
should eliminate other motivations for using this documentation.
- Restructure the introductory content to be more focused on the
overview.
- The bottom content was a stale duplicate of the bottom of the
installer page, dating from when this was a required step after
running the installer.
- Most of the longer-form sections were duplicates of sections of
either the installer page or the introductions of dedicated pages on
the topic. Remove these in favor of new entries in the popular
settings area.
- Mention storage as a popular setting to configure.
- Remove deleted Twitter integration from popular settings list.
Instead of the PUSH_NOTIFICATIONS_BOUNCER_URL and
SUBMIT_USAGE_STATISTICS settings, we want servers to configure
individual ZULIP_SERVICE_* settings, while maintaining backward
compatibility with the old settings. Thus, if all the new
ZULIP_SERVICE_* are at their default False value, but the legacy
settings are activated, they need to be translated in computed_settings
to the modern way.
Updates descriptive text that refer to Zulip channels in the
`docs/production` files to use channel instead of stream.
Part of the stream to channel rename project.
The "nothing else" line is accurate at a high level but more ambigious
than I'd like for sensitive documentation -- we're not trying to make
an extreme claim that we've disabled all forms of short-term logging.
These metadata are essentially all publicily available anyway, and
making uploading them unconditional will simplify some things.
The documentation is not quite accurate in that it claims the server
will upload some metadata that is not actually uploaded yet (but will
by soon). This seems harmless.
This makes it possible to send notifications to more than one app ID
from the same server: for example, the main Zulip mobile app and the
new Flutter-based app, which has a separate app ID for use through its
beta period so that it can be installed alongside the existing app.
- Updates instances of "private message", "PM", and "private_message",
excluding historical references in `overview/changelog.md`.
- Also excludes `/docs/translating` since we would need new
translations for "direct messages" and "DMs".
This uses the myst_heading_anchors option to automatically generate
header anchors and make Sphinx aware of them. See
https://myst-parser.readthedocs.io/en/latest/syntax/optional.html#auto-generated-header-anchors.
Note: to be compatible with GitHub, MyST-Parser uses a slightly
different convention for .md fragment links than .html fragment links
when punctuation is involved. This does not affect the generated
fragment links in the HTML output.

We previously had a convention of redundantly including the directory
in relative links to reduce mistakes when moving content from one file
to another. However, these days we have a broken link checker in
test-documentation, and after #21237, MyST-Parser will check relative
links (including fragments) when you run build-docs.

This is an additional security hardening step, to make Zulip default
to preventing SSRF attacks. The overhead of running Smokescreen is
minimal, and there is no reason to force deployments to take
additional steps in order to secure themselves against SSRF attacks.
Deployments which already have a different external proxy configured
will not gain a local Smokescreen installation, and running without
Smokescreen is supported by explicitly unsetting the `host` or `port`
values in `/etc/zulip/zulip.conf`.
These are respected by `urllib`, and thus also `requests`. We set
`HTTP_proxy`, not `HTTP_PROXY`, because the latter is ignored in
situations which might be running under CGI -- in such cases it may be
coming from the `Proxy:` header in the request.
We're migrating to using the cleaner zulip.com domain, which involves
changing all of our links from ReadTheDocs and other places to point
to the cleaner URL.
Merges the "Upgrades" section from production/maintain-secure-upgrade.md
with production/modifying-zulip.md.
Contains significant textual changes by tabbott to read more clearly.
We had an organization with engineers for whom English was not their
native language think they needed to go through this laborious
process, which was definitely counterproductive for them.
Sphinx/ReadTheDocs supports automatically translating links written as
to `.md` files to point to the corresponding `.html` files, so this
migration does not change the resulting HTML output in ReadTheDocs.
But it does fix apparent broken links on GitHub.
This doesn't prevent people from reading the documentation on GitHub
(so doesn't mitigate the fact that some rtd-specific syntax does not
render properly on GH), but it will prevent us from getting erroneous
issues reported about the hyperlinks not working.
