This commit updates code to send messages to "general chat" topic
if streams used for announcements for "New user signups",
"New created streams", "Moderation requests" and "Zulip updates"
have topics policy set to allow only "general chat" messages.
The data conversion logic for exports from other apps will try to set
these announcement channels based on presence of channels with an
appropriate default name - however those sometimes do not exist.
Then it falls on the import process to choose a good default value. That
default should be the channel with the most subscribers.
This requires a tweak to the send_zulip_update_announcements_to_realm
code to respect the "Starting tomorrow, users in your organization will
receive updated" behavior promised to admins in the initial DMs.
Closes#34984.
`zulip_update_announcements_stream` should be set to None when its
channel is deactivated. This commit adds a safeguard to explicitly
raise an error if it is found in a deactivated state, indicating a
potential bug that needs investigation.
Without this commit, we won't face any runtime error but the error
raised would be at a much later stage i.e. while sending message,
with a generic error message i.e. "Not authorized to send to channel "
which would require further investigation to determine the root cause.
This commit helps with an early return and better error message
to debug.
This commit performs a sweep on the first batch of non API
files to rename "huddle" to "direct_message_group`.
It also renames variables and methods of type -
"huddle_message" to "group_direct_message".
This is a part of #28640
Earlier, for new realm with zulip_update_announcements_stream
set to None, an assertion error was raised in
'is_group_direct_message_sent_to_admins_within_days' because
no 'None' to new level change took place for such realm.
A new realm is on the latest level and a default stream is set.
This commit updates the logic to simply skip sending
update messages as the stream was manually set to None
in such cases.
To help users focus on the onboarding experience, we no longer
send the introductory "Zulip updates" message as a part of
onboarding.
Now, we send the introductory message just before the first
update message.
Fixes#30053.
When the export is NOT generated by another zulip server,
while importing:
* Set the 'zulip_update_announcements_level' to the latest level
as we don't want to send all the older update messages to them.
* Send a group DM to admins, suggesting them to configure the
stream in order to avoid missing future update messages.
Fixes#29041.
This commit adds a 'skip-delay' option to the
'send_zulip_update_announcements' management command.
It will be useful for self-hosted servers after 9.0 upgrade to
avoid the 24 hour delay to receive update messages after group
DM is sent to the admins.
One can run the management command with the --skip-delay flag
to immediately send the update messages.
For organizations with "Zulip update announcements" stream set
to a default value, we wait for one day after sending group
DM to admins to allow them to change the stream from it's
default value if they wish to.
This prep commit refactors the function
'is_group_direct_message_sent_to_admins_atleast_one_week_ago' to
'is_group_direct_message_sent_to_admins_within_days' allowing us
to use a flexible timeframe instead of hardcoded 1 week.
We will reuse this function as a part of determinig whether
group DM to admins was sent within 1 day.
