Previously, it seemed possible for the scheduled messages API to try
to send infinite copies of a message if we had the very poor luck of a
persistent failure happening after a message was sent.
The failure_message field supports being able to display what happened
in the scheduled messages modal, though that's not exposed to the API
yet.
The previous logic would attempt to send a large number of unrelated
messages in a single transaction, which is just asking for trouble in
the event that one of the attempts fails.
This commit adds the OPTIONAL .realm attribute to Message
(and ArchivedMessage), with the server changes for making new Messages
have this set. Old Messages still have to be migrated to backfill this,
before it can be non-nullable.
Appropriate test changes to correctly set .realm for Messages the tests
manually create are included here as well.
`deliver_scheduled_emails` and `deliver_scheduled_messages` use their
respective tables like a queue, but do not have guarantees that there
was only one consumer (besides the EMAIL_DELIVERER_DISABLED setting),
and could send duplicate messages if multiple consumers raced in
reading rows.
Use database locking to ensure that the database only feeds a given
ScheduledMessage or ScheduledEmail row to a single consumer. A second
consumer, if it exists, will block until the first consumer commits
the transaction.
We change the return type of check_message to be dataclass instead of
Dict[str, Any]. This refactoring helps us to understand the context of the
data structure returned by check_message clearly which was not possible
when using Dict.
SendMessageRequest class is added in zerver/lib/message.py inspite of it
not being used in that file itself just to maintain consistency as other
TypedDicts and dataclasses are defined in that file and to avoid circular
dependency as SendMessageRequest is being used in lib/widget.py as well.
We also rename local variable to 'send_request' for accessing
SendMessageRequest objects.
do_send_messages has side effects outside the database and may not
work reliably if its database effects are reordered by being inside a
transaction.
This also fixes a bug where we were doing the update incorrectly on
the Message table.

We call build_message_send_dict from check_message instead of
do_send_messages.
This is a prep commit for adding a new setting for handling
wildcard mentions in large streams.
`zproject/settings.py` itself is mostly-empty now. Adjust the
references which should now point to `zproject/computed_settings.py`
or `zproject/default_settings.py`.
This is a preparatory commit for using isort for sorting all of our
imports, merging changes to files where we can easily review the
changes as something we're happy with.
These are also files with relatively little active development, which
means we don't expect much merge conflict risk from these changes.
Fixes#1727.
With the server down, apply migrations 0245 and 0246. 0246 will remove
the pub_date column, so it's essential that the previous migrations
ran correctly to copy data before running this.
We do this since we are yet to figure out how the entire realm
internal bots scenerio should work and therefore for the timming
we will use notification bot to deliver the reminders.
A key part of this is the new helper, get_user_by_delivery_email. Its
verbose name is important for clarity; it should help avoid blind
copy-pasting of get_user (which we'll also want to rename).
Unfortunately, it requires detailed understanding of the context to
figure out which one to use; each is used in about half of call sites.
Another important note is that this PR doesn't migrate get_user calls
in the tests except where not doing so would cause the tests to fail.
This probably deserves a follow-up refactor to avoid bugs here.
We add conditional infinite sleep to this delivery job as a means to
handle case of multiple servers in service to a realm running this
job. In such a scenerio race conditions might arise leading to
multiple deliveries for same message. This way we try to match the
behaviour of what other jobs do in such a case.
Note: We should eventually do something to make such jobs work
while being running on multiple servers.
